Millicent Childs Over 60s League
A Word On My Team Selection Process
I’m happy to say that the squad size has increased and we have some more players available this year. Whilst that is good news, it does give me a little bit of a headache regarding team selection for the coming season. However, I will continue with the same process as I did last year. This is how I go about team selection.
1. You are all fully paid-up members of the club so I will endeavour to give everyone an equal number of games spread over the season. This league is about enjoyment and as competitive as I am I want to make sure everyone gets to play as much as possible.
2. If you don’t play one week you will get priority over team selection the following week, subject to holidays, sickness, injuries and all of the other stuff that goes on within a team.
3. If you give your time up to play away matches you will not be asked to stand down in favour of those that can only play home matches.
4. I understand there might be a reluctance to go to the club for a match if you are selected as a reserve. I will try to share that spot as evenly as I can. I will also endeavour to notify the reserve as to whether or not they are needed as soon as I can. This might be as late as a couple of hours before the match.
The teams may look a little odd for the first three or four matches. This is because the greens will be heavy and I am trying to take that into account. Your positions in each triple will become more stable as the season progresses and the greens dry.
I was very pleased that last year we had a full team for every match. Not once were we short; on two occasions we actually had more players than we needed. With a squad of 18 this year I hope we don’t play short again.
I think that’s it! I’m looking forward to getting on the green with you all and giving it our best shot. Onwards and upwards.
