A Place To Keep Updated

Saturday 19th April 2025

Dates for your diary

The opening day for the club is Sunday 27th April at 1:30pm for a 2:00pm start.  Get those shoulder joints oiled up and ready for the first roll-up of the season.  The club will also be open on Saturday 26th at 10:00 for a clean-up. *Please* come and give a hand if you can. The sooner we get things done the sooner we can go home.  The usual faces would appreciate any extra help they can get.

Friendly match dates

Dates for this year’s friendly matches against Great Gransden and Eaton Socon have been published, and last year’s matches have been removed. The dates can be seen on the Fixtures page. You can go to the electronic selection form,  or add your name to the paper form in the clubhouse.

Jacket order updates

Price Reduction

We have reached an order quantity of 15 for the new club jacket. That means the unit cost, including delivery, has gone down to £41.33 from £46. I will be refunding the difference for those of you that have paid already, as soon as the final order is placed on the supplier.

Online Shop

The exciting news is that I have created an online shop for our kit. New players will be directed there as it will speed up the order process. You will be able to pay the supplier immediately and the kit you ordered will be delivered to an address of your choice. Just the shirts are currently shown with the jackets to follow. You can see the shop here: https://www.zapkam.com/p/club-shops/bowls/huntington-bc/

New Club Jacket

Jim will be sending out an email to all club members that he has an email address for about purchasing a new club jacket.  If you do not receive that message by Monday please let me know your email address so I can pass it on to Jim for inclusion in future emails.  I am looking to place the initial order this coming Friday 28th for the jacket to make sure we get the kit before the start of the season.

Updates following the committee meeting held on the 22nd March

Opening Weekend

There were a number of matters discussed at today’s committee meeting. One of the most important things was the need to be ready for the opening weekend. The attached photo details a list of jobs that need to be completed or at least started, on Saturday 26th April. The club will be open at 10:00. Please come and help! The committee cannot do everything themselves so we need help.Supporting your club is not just about rocking up to play bowls.  The open day is on Sunday 27th April, starting at 2pm. Pop down to get your eye in before the season starts.

Membership

Please renew your membership as soon as possible.  The cut-off date for doing this is the 31st May, however it should be renewed and your subscription paid before competitions start so you are eligible to play.  You can complete your form by clicking here or going to the club and filling in a paper copy.

New season, new look

Even though it’s mid-January and the days are still short, cold and wet, the new season is creeping up on us.  Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s going on.

Website renewal

The website went down well last year and helped to attract a number of new members.  That is what the committee wanted so we had some success.  With that view it has been decided to retain the site for the coming year.  We hope it provides you, the members, with all of the information you want, but please let me know if you think something is missing.  I hope we can improve communication about friendlies this year.  I am also hoping that we can bring you details of ladies league results with some tables this year.

New shirts

The initial order of the new shirts was received before Christmas.  They have been worn by the indoor outdoor team since the new year and have had positive remarks from our members and opposition team players.  Most of them have been handed out to their wearers, but if you haven’t got yours yet please let me know and I’ll arrange to meet you at the club.

Competitions and availability

Nobody else stood for Captain of the Over 60s team at the AGM so I will be organising things for the team again this year.  Earlier this week I got the entry form for the Millicent Childs League.  It is in the hands of the treasurer and secretary ready for completion.  We did quite well last year, so it would be great to see if we can do a bit better in the coming season.  Last year the team wasn’t short of players for any game; on two occasions we actually had an extra.  Let’s hope for more of the same next season.  If you know you’re not goingto be available on specific dates for any competition next year please complete the Availability Form.
